Ariana (or "Ari", as she prefers) is Ewan's girlfirend. She makes her living as an apprentice architect, drawing out plans and making presentations for one of the biggest firms in the city. She hopes to work her way up through the ranks, perhaps becoming a senior partner one day, and works very long hours to accomplish this. As a result, she doesn't get to see her boyfriend very often. When she isn't working, she spends her time as an anti-NSTA activist -- she sincerely dislikes the Agency, believing it to be extremely invasive, and does her best to get it disbanded. So far, her efforts have been in vain, but this hasn't disheartened her yet.
Of course, this make Ewan's life very interesting, as he hasn't (truthfully) told her what he does for a living. Each time she asks, he either dodges the question or makes something up. He realizes that one day he will have to tell her, but still keeps putting it off. Ari is very strong-willed -- once her mind is made up about something it very rarely ever changes -- and Ewan uses this to rationalize his continued silence.
Despite this impasse, they truly care about each other. They have many things in common, and enjoy each other's company. They met through Ewan's cat, Quasar, who has a habit of escaping from home and wandering around the city. One day, after he escaped, Ewan tracked him to Ari's apartment. Fortunately for both, she was home that day, and able to return the cat. They hit it off immediately, agreed to get together again later, and the rest, of course, is history.
